What are your fears?
I am extremely afraid of snakes. Even just the thought of them.
Raise your hand if you have the fear of the unknown? I do. Especially for us women we have the tendency to overthink our minds sometimes (if not most of the time) races like the speed of light. Though fear can also be a good thing because its a stimuli to protect us from harm. It can also paralyze and make us anxious which is not a good thing.
What should we do from our fears? Should be simply run away from it?
The answer in a resounding no. We have to learn to face our fears with courage and faith beacuse fear can never be extinguished if we simply run away from it. One way or another we have to face the reality of our fears so we can live a joyful live. One of my greatest fear are snakes. Yes, just even a thought of it. So how can we face our fears?
First, we have to identify what are we fearful of. And identifying our fears requires humility and honesty.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:6-7
Be honest with what you truly feel about that particular fear that is bothering you. As for my fear of snakes, every time I will be in a zoo my friends knows that I am afraid of snakes so they feel for me whenever I feel fearful. That leads me to the most wonderful point on how do we overcome our fears.
Know that you are not alone. Not just in my fear of snakes but in every aspect of my life I know that there is a sovereign God who is ALWAYS with me in this fight.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
He upholds us with His righteous right hand. And the most beautiful assurance is that HE IS WITH US. Going back to my fear of snakes, I know one way or another I really have to face them and I just can’t run away. I have to face them. I was able to touch a snake because my friends are with me to help me overcome it.
What made me touch the snake? It’s because I trust my friends who are with me in helping me overcome this fear. I know that they will never place me in a situation where I will be harmed. I am rested in their presence. It’s the same thing in our walk find rest in God. Anxiety, doubt, confusion and fear isn’t from God. Rest in His promises. Claim His wonderful promise.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
Ask yourself today, what are things that is causing you anxiety or fear?
Are those “snakes” bigger than God who created the the universe?
Rest in His perfect love that will cast all your fears away (1 John 4:18) becuase He is always with you if you simply lay your fears at the foot of Jesus. Let go and let God be God.
