“Now Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.”
-Psalm 39:7
Waiting is such a big word that most of us wouldn’t want to experience, especially in our generation where everything can be done in an instant. But waiting is crucial in our spiritual walk it is when we seek and find God.
Thoughout the bible we can find a number of examples of waiting on God. We see Abraham waiting on God to bless him with a son. We see the nation of Israel waiting for someone who will deliver them out of slavery in Egypt, then waited for a hundred years for the Savior to come. In the New Testament, we see the disciples waiting for Jesus to be King (they didn’t understand that He has to suffer and die on the cross for our salvation), and we see the church waiting for Christ to return.
“Waiting is an integral part of God’s design for us.”
Why then do we hate waiting so much? Simple its not fun! Waiting require us to trust the unseen, to be assured that God will accomplish something good for us in this physical world. And we have to trust Him in His perfect timing not ours, it truly demands faith, because human as we are we want the blessing right now and that’s it, thank you.
As we wait, God purifies and refocuses our hearts. We may have longed for a certain answer from God;however as He delays, His spirit works deep in us to change our desires. Our hope may have been in a person, promotion, worldy wealth, but in God’s crucible of waiting, he shifts our hearts’ attention to Him so that we desire to know Him above all else. Then we can say with David, “Lord my hope is in You!”
“Faith is to believe what you do not see;the reward of this faith is to see what you believe” -St. Augustine
Waiting? With God it’s going to be a wonderful journey!
